ALAMEDA
BATH HOUSE
This backyard bath house, located in Portland’s historic Alameda neighborhood, is thoughtfully situated on the footprint of a former carriage house. Just outside its doors, a grounding bluestone patio anchors the space, surrounded by lush, textural plantings that highlight the natural beauty of the architectural materials. The rich greenery contrasts beautifully with the bath house’s warm wood tones and sleek black steel detailing.
The planting design emphasizes texture and structure over seasonal color, creating a serene, timeless atmosphere. Subtle accents like white hydrangea blooms and fall foliage add visual interest throughout the year, peeking through layers of hakone grass, sword ferns, and foamflower to create a soft, immersive retreat.
