THE STUDIO

Each project is an opportunity to learn, to analyze ideas deeply, to express creative energy, and to be reminded of the responsibility we have in this world to create sustainable, healthy spaces for both communities and nature to thrive. We believe balancing the built and natural environments is best done by providing honest, detailed, and quality design solutions that work with the land, not against it. As holistic designers, naturalists, outdoor recreationalists, and collaborators, we believe the finished product is strengthened by the iterative design process, environmental stewardship and relationships built along the way.

Planterra is an intentionally small firm, which gives us the ability to dedicate time and attention to each client, consultant and project from start to finish. We prioritize clear communication, timely responses, and open collaboration within project teams.

Our day to day office culture is focused on building people up through positivity, constructive feedback and support, and the desire to constantly learn from others and our environment. We believe this makes better designers, coworkers, and humans in general who come to the table humbly as collaborators and listeners.

NATALIE PETTYJOHN RLA, ASLA

Natalie is a licensed landscape architect with nine years of professional experience in the field. Primarily focused on the residential design and small commercial markets in the Pacific Northwest and Rocky Mountain regions, she's well-equipped to provide quality, beautiful design solutions for anything from large-scale ranch planning to modern urban residential designs.

Natalie calls various places in the West home - from the Olympic Peninsula in Washington, to Bend, Oregon, to Bozeman, Montana - each place has fueled her love for the outdoors. The Western Slope of Colorado now serves as a home base and jumping off point to so many unique landscapes of the American West. She almost always has a cup of coffee in hand, and loves to explore hiking trails, backpack, and mountain bike. Natalie, a native Kansan, holds a Masters Degree from Kansas State University and is licensed in Washington, Oregon, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Utah and Colorado.

Planterra focuses on design for western landscapes. Our portfolio includes a wide range of projects across the Pacific Northwest and Mountain West, with Western Field Studies completed in the Rocky Mountain states, Southwest region, West Texas, Great Basin region, and Pacific Northwest. Licensed in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah and Colorado, Planterra is always open to expanding our project reach and exploring new places by providing resources for design professionals and homeowners in these areas.
