BENNETT BAY MASTER PLAN

Subtle luxury meets adventure play on this Lake Coeur d'Alene property. A brainstorming and master planning exercise with the design team focused on blending the built into the natural with a site program that dissolves into the existing forest as one moves further up slope. Residential condos and an amenity building are tucked into the existing grade, and perch residents over the landscape and adjacent road to focus on idyllic views to the lake.

Moments of curiosity and places of discovery change seasonally as temporary elements are taken down or put up depending on the time of year, with trails of varying difficulty connecting each space. Hammocks, slacklines, and climbing nets are strung between mature Douglas fir and Ponderosa Pine trees with peekaboo views of the lake or on flat benches on the hillside. A stargazing lookout tower and canvas tent platforms encourage guests to experience the site at all times of day and night. Large climbing boulders and scramble routes are tucked into trail switchbacks and steep rocky slopes just off trail, providing climbing areas for beginner and intermediate-level enthusiasts.

With a central lawn over the proposed drainfield edged by a crushed gravel walking loop, and two heated pavilions at key activity points along the path, this area may be accessible year-round for small to medium-size gatherings, community events or outdoor movies on the lawn, volleyball or other lawn games, or imaginative nature play. With flexibly programmed spaces provided throughout the hillside, the site provides plenty of opportunity for residents and guests of all ages and abilities to explore, to gather, wander, and play.
