SAND HOLLOW
This spa-inspired desert retreat is nestled on a half-acre parcel within Sand Hollow Resort, just outside Hurricane, Utah. Surrounded by the dramatic rock formations, mesas, and mountains of southern Utah, the landscape evokes a profound sense of serenity and calm, creating a restful oasis within the expansive desert environment.

The planting design reinforces this tranquil atmosphere with airy, textural trees like olive and chitalpa providing soft overhead shade, while blue-gray and sage-green groundcovers in light gravel create a soothing, understated palette. Staggered courtyard walls at the front entry create depth and privacy, offering visitors a glimpse into the landscaped courtyard through punched steel screens before passing through the gate. This architectural language continues throughout the site, with low walls defining transitions between public and private spaces and framing sculptural desert plants such as agave, sotol, and yucca.

In the backyard, flexible gathering and entertaining spaces invite residents and guests to relax while taking in sweeping views of distant mesas and mountains. The design thoughtfully balances comfort and connection to the striking desert landscape, making this retreat both a sanctuary and a celebration of place.
