SUN VALLEY RESIDENCE

SUN VALLEY RESIDENCE

Buried into the north slope and perched above the site to the south, the pavilion-like living space at the building's core connects to the landscape through a glass facade and expansive covered patio. Flanked by private suites and an attached dwelling unit, this low, linear residence seamlessly slides into the site topography and anchors itself into the surrounding landscape.

An understated entry at the north side of the home invites guests through a threshold wall into a small courtyard before entering the front door. Large boulder features placed in zen-like garden spaces visually connect the north and south sides of the home, using natural elements as sculptural pieces.

A large covered patio adjacent to the great room focuses on the mountain views to the south, with plentiful space for outdoor dining and entertaining year-round. Worn footpaths throughout the site provide opportunities for meandering walks and quiet moments of discovery, with peekaboo views to the Sawtooth Mountains in the northwest.

With a highly site-derived plant palette, a series of curated monoculture plantings closest to the building transition to the native shrubland and revegetated areas using only site-collected seeds and starts - reiterating the importance of site-driven design in both the architecture and the site.
